HERDSA 2021 Conference cancelled

Many of you have now been advised that the 2021 HERDSA Conference in Brisbane has been cancelled for the second year. We were very close it going ahead and with almost 400 delegates registered, it was clear that many of us were keen to get together face-to-face and exchange experiences and meet up with colleagues. The decision to cancel was taken out of our hands with the progressive state lockdowns and limits on numbers in spaces etc. Allan Goody, our previous president, and conference convener for the Brisbane conference has worked tirelessly for more than 3 years to bring a wonderful conference together for us all. He was supported by our Events organisers – Expert Events - who worked alongside Allan and the Queensland organising committee, Manisha Thakkar, Bergita Shannon, Judit Kibedi, Kerry Russo, Christy Collis, Kelley Burton and Amanda McCubbin. Manisha – our thanks for the many hours spent on preparing the Program guidebook. My thanks to you all.

For all of you who prepared abstracts and presentations, registered and planned to come – thank you. For all of you who wanted to come but were unable because of geography, institutional and/or personal restrictions or for whatever reason, we hope that we might meet next year 27 – 30 June 2022 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Over the next few weeks and months, we will provide you with details of announcements that were to be made at the conference, upcoming online events and local and regional opportunities for us to keep in touch. In the meantime, please do make use of the articles in our wonderful HERD publication available to HERDSA members online, consider undertaking some of the SoTL modules or enrolling in the HERDSA Fellowship program. While in lockdown maybe write an article based on your planned presentation for our new journal – Advancing Scholarship and Research in Higher Education (ASRHE) https://asrhe.org/index.php/asrhe. Again, our sincere and grateful thanks for your understanding.

Denise Chalmers
(President HERDSA)
