HERDSA Webinar: Publishing in ASRHE
Wednesday 4th August, 1.00pm AEST

Advancing Scholarship and Research in Higher Education (ASRHE) is a new journal in the HERDSA stable. The purpose of the journal is to progress learning and teaching in higher education by advancing scholarship and research. As such, it invites both complete research and research in progress articles on higher education.

In the first half of this webinar, we will talk about three of the journal’s characteristics:
- Research in progress article category;
- Creative modes of dissemination of research;
- Group-based peer review process;

In the second part of the webinar we will discuss how to shape articles for submission to ASRHE (e.g., looking at research submitted in abstract form to the HERDSA conference). One of the resources we will use is Pat Thomson’s Planer’s Approach (https://patthomson.net/2019/09/16/a-planners-approach-to-the-first-draft/). Please sign up for this part of the webinar to facilitate our preparations.

Call for Paper Proposals for a Special Issue on 'Pedagogies of Belonging in an Anxious World'
6 August 2021

JUTLP invites proposals for a Special Issue on “Pedagogies of Belonging in an Anxious World”. The aim of this special issue is to enable critical examination, elicit important insights, and together, develop a more nuanced understanding of belonging in the higher education context. We invite authors to engage with the ways we design learning experiences and curricula that enable students to thrive in a supercomplex, uncertain and increasingly anxious world (Barnett, 2012, 2015). The issue will survey a range of themes and sub-themes and will solicit and address conceptual papers, papers with an educational practice or pedagogical thrust and those which involve empirical research. Please note that we extended the deadline for proposals to 6 August, 2021, and we have also created an online form for proposal submission.

Supporting Students’ Transitions to University: Cross-sectoral Perspectives
2 September 2021

How can we step out of our silos and work together to provide international students with a successful transition to university study? Join the IEAA Teaching and Learning Network for a unique opportunity to share knowledge and workshop problems faced across sectors with the common goal of student success.

Hosted from 10am - 1pm on Thursday 2 September, this webinar addresses the key issues for international students in Australia transitioning between sectors and highlights programs and teaching and learning initiatives designed for the specific needs of these students.

With case studies from Macquarie University, The Moreton Bay Colleges, University of Sydney Centre for English Teaching, Australian Catholic University, Holmesglen Institute, and RMIT University, this unique knowledge exchange will help participants to imagine new and innovative solutions to their locally experienced problems and in the process improve the overall experience of international cohorts transitioning to university studies in Australia.
