Webinar- 20 Years of PISA: Australian students' attitudes towards and impact on reading, mathematics & science learning.
Oct 28, 2020 03:00 PM CST (Adelaide)

Dr. I Gusti Darmawan, University of Adelaide will present his investigation on changes in the attitudes of 15-year-old Australian students towards reading mathematics, and science, and explores the relationships between attitude and student performance in these respective domains over the period of 2000–2018. Multigroup Confirmatory Factor Analysis was used to examine the measurement invariance of the construct of attitudes across the cycles of PISA. In addition, Structural Equation Modelling was used to explore mediating effects of attitudes on performance in the three domains. The results indicated that there were significant declines in student performance for all three domains. The levels of enjoyment toward the subject domains were relatively low for reading and mathematics but relatively high for science. Levels of instrumental motivation were relatively high and had slight upward trends for both mathematics and science. There were positive and significant relationships between attitudes and student performances.

[Register Now] Virtual Conference: Meeting the Challenge of Student Mobility in a Global Pandemic
13 November 2020 (9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Hong Kong/Perth Time; 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Sydney Time)

The global pandemic is dramatically changing the landscape of higher education and the internationalisation agenda. Many concerns have been raised around the access to international learning opportunities, the issue of equity, and well-being of both local and international students. The University of Hong Kong has partnered with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University to enhance teachers’ capacity for internationalisation through a community of practice (https://www.cetl.hku.hk/cop-itl/).

This virtual conference, our finale event, brings together experts, students, teachers, and institutional leaders to brainstorm approaches to tackling the challenges and turn them into opportunities. We are honoured to have keynote speakers Prof. Betty Leask, Dr. Darla Deardorff, Prof. Ly Tran, and Prof. Fazal Rizvi to share their insights.

This conference is open to all — teachers and students worldwide are welcome — and is free of charge.

For inquiries, please contact Tracy Zou at tracyzou@hku.hk

Multicultural dimensions of lecturer responses to university student work

You are invited to participate in the research project described below.

Multicultural dimensions of lecturer responses to university student work
Chief investigator: Dr Julia Miller
Email: julia.miller@adelaide.edu.au
HREC approval number: HREC-2020-213

This research project aims to understand how lecturers in different countries respond to student work, including the effectiveness of this process and the conditions that might affect it. If you are employed as an academic, or have retired from work as an academic, in a higher education institution in a non-English speaking country, you are invited to participate in a 20 minute questionnaire (https://artsadelaide.syd1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0VrgD42Um4a1HzT). At the end of the questionnaire there is an invitation to participate in an optional online interview and to enter a free prize draw to win one of four AUD50 Apple or Google Play vouchers.

Study on educational developers' professional knowledge

Dear colleagues,

We are involved in a study examining the educational developers’ professional knowledge. We are interested in how and where educational developers acquired the knowledge and skills that we rely on for our roles, and where the gaps in our professional learning are

To this end, we have created a anonymous survey that we invite educational developers from all career stages to take. The survey should not take more than about 15-20 minutes and can be found here:
http://canterbury.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1ZgLuFBZ95hheS1

The study is funded by a Small Grant from HERDSA and has been reviewed and approved by the University of Canterbury (New Zealand), Human Ethics Committee. Results will be made available via this listserv at the completion of the project.

Regards,
Erik Brogt, Julie Timmermans, Bernadette Knewstubb
