HERDSA is a member of the International Consortium for Educational Development. ICED promotes educational and academic development in higher education world-wide. ICED is a network whose members are themselves national or regional organisations/ networks concerned with promoting good practice in higher education. The ICED Council is formed by Presidents, or their representatives, of a country’s academic staff development network.

In 2022 Allan Goody was awarded the Award of Spirit of ICED  for his long association with ICED dating back  twenty years, when he served on the planning committee for the ICED 2002 conference in Perth. Allan is one of ICED’s longest serving Presidents (from 2017-2021), was the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) representative on ICED Council for eight years.
