Dr Alice Brown is the Higher Degree Research Convenor and Senior Fellow (HEA) in the School of Education, at the University of Southern Queensland. Alice is motivated to translate her research and knowledge of the scholarship of learning and teaching in ways that are accessible, relevant. and have real world application to others to others in the tertiary and broader higher education sector, maximise student retention, learning, engagement and success.
Alice is the Co-Chair of the HERDSA SIG – Online Engagement in Higher Education. She has extensive national and international experience in academic staff development and mentoring focused on supporting reflection and refinements to practice related to developing strategies and designing learning activities and environments to enhance online student engagement
She has led and worked in multidisciplinary research teams focused on exploring innovative approaches to enhancing student online engagement, including the development of the world’s first ‘nudge protocol for nudging low and non-engaged students.
Alice’s and her teams exemplary teaching and scholarship (SoTL) has been recognised through numerous awards, including finalist in the ALT Learning Technologies of the Year Award (2021) for outstanding achievement in learning technology on a national scale for “scaling and refining pedagogical practices of learning technologies”; the 2020 USQ Excellence Award for Advancing Student Success, and the 2020 USQ Excellence in Teaching Award for Online learning.
