Founded in 1890, the University of Tasmania is ranked in the top two percent of universities worldwide and in the top ten research universities in Australia.  The University has a strong and distinctive Tasmanian identity which underpins teaching and research that is international in scope, vision and standards.

The PVC (Schools Engagement) will play a key role in the University’s strategy to increase access to and participation in education for Tasmanians.  To this end, the PVC (Schools Engagement) will have high level responsibility for: 

• programs that transition students from school, college and TAFE into University

• coordinating the University’s engagement with education providers

• shared data arrangements about students in Tasmanian schools 

In addition, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Schools Engagement) will facilitate and engage in research related to access, participation and equity.  

This position reports to and works collaboratively with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students and Education) and other senior leaders in the Division of Students and Education and across the University and plays a leadership role in the Division’s activities in the north of Tasmania.  

Applicants will have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field, high level expertise in coordinating multiple stakeholders in a complex education environment, superior communication and team building skills and a track record of winning substantial funding from a variety of sources

This full-time position is based in Launceston for an initial period of five years.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship: Simon Fraser University Vancouver, Canada

The Simon Fraser University (SFU) Institute for the Study of Teaching and Learning in the Disciplines (ISTLD) invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow appointment, to begin September 6, 2016 or earlier, for a period of one year, and second year based on performance and funding.

The primary purpose of the ISTLD (http://www.sfu.ca/istld) is to inspire, support, and enhance faculty-led inquiry into all aspects of teaching and learning at SFU. By ?faculty-led inquiry? we mean research that is initiated by faculty members and related to ideas or questions about teaching and learning in a specific course, more than one course, at the program level or across programs. This work is supported through the Teaching and Learning Development Grants program (http://www.sfu.ca/tlgrants) and through related work of faculty members, staff and graduate students affiliated with the ISTLD.

Post-Doctoral Fellow responsibilities include:

? Participating in ISTLD activities, including the facilitation and administration of ISTLD-sponsored events

and working on ISTLD-based research and evaluation activities.

? Providing research support to faculty engaged in investigating teaching and learning. This will include

consultation on research designs (qualitative and quantitative), data collection and analysis and the

development of final reports.

? Supporting dissemination of project findings within and beyond SFU.

? Mentoring (with the ISTLD Director and Research Associate) graduate students associated with the ISTLD.

? Developing and carrying out a personal research program related to the work of the ISTLD.

Required qualifications and skills:

? Doctoral degree in any discipline earned within the last four years (completed after May 2012).

? Knowledge of and experience using quantitative and qualitative research methods.

? Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

? Strong organizational and project management skills.

Experience and skills that would be an asset:

? Graduate-level work in Education or in teaching and learning of a particular discipline.

? Experience conducting program evaluation.

? Experience supporting faculty in the systematic investigation of their teaching.

? Experience developing instructional materials and/or technologies.

? Demonstrated ability to work effectively with academics across disciplines.

The Post-Doctoral Fellow will report to the Director, ISTLD, Dr. Cheryl Amundsen.

Salary and Term of Appointment: $50,000 (CAD)/year plus benefits. One year contract, renewable for a second year based on performance and funding.
