OECD Thomas J. Alexander Fellowship Programme
15 June

The OECD is a global economic forum working with 35 member countries and more than 100 emerging and developing economies to make better policies for better lives. Our mission is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The Organisation provides a unique forum in which governments work together to share experiences on what drives economic, social and environmental change, seeking solutions to common problems.

The Thomas J. Alexander Fellowship Programme will support individuals in conducting quantitative, evidence-based research on education, particularly in emerging economies, and in linking that research to education policy and practice.
Fellows will be selected among individuals working at research institutions, government agencies or professional organisations. Candidates with a doctoral degree, who are familiar with quantitative research methods and the use of large-scale surveys, and who have published work in scientific journals are encouraged to apply. Selected fellows will be invited to work at the OECD headquarters in Paris for a period of three months or more.
Research proposals will be selected on the basis of their originality, potential and scientific rigour. All policy-relevant topics will be considered, particularly those focusing on equality of opportunity.

The programme, named after the former director of the OECD’s Education, Employment, Labour and Social Affairs department, will provide funding for one year, including time spent at OECD headquarters in Paris. Fellows will be expected to produce a publishable research paper or report at the end of their fellowship. Fellows will work in close collaboration with OECD analysts.
For more information on the Thomas J. Alexander Fellowship Programme, visit: http://www.oecd.org/edu/thomasjalexanderfellowship.htm

IMPORTANT: For more information on how to prepare this application and the research proposal before applying online, please go to https://oecd.taleo.net/careersection/ext/jobdetail.ftl?job=11393&lang=en....

University participation and first-in-family students: Seeking universities interested in participating in a research study
July 2017

Does your university have students who are first in their families to attend higher education? If yes, then you may be interested in participating in an ARC Discovery project entitled Capitals and Capabilities: Rethinking HE persistence. The project seeks to develop the first Capabilities Best Practice Matrix targeted at students who are first in their family to come to university.

The study is seeking additional Iocations across Australia that would be interested in being involved in the development of this framework. This involvement would simply require some assistance in recruiting first-in-family students to participate in either interviews/focus groups or completing a survey on their experiences of persisting at university, all research activities would be carried out by the CI and has ethical clearances from UOW.

If you think your institution might be interested in participating or if you want to hear more about the study then please email Sarah at: first-in-family@uow.edu.au
