HERDSA 2019 conference event - HEA Fellowship Networking Event in Auckland
Wednesday 3rd July, 4.00-5.30pm (Day 1 of HERDSA 2019)

HEA Fellowship Networking event:
Encouraging recognition of Learning & Teaching

Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowships are being placed at the forefront of professional learning recognition in many Australasian universities - to develop, recognise and reward teaching and learning roles.

Would you like to know more about these Fellowships? Maybe you have HEA Fellowship and would like to meet other Fellowship holders at HERDSA? Or just interested to know more about the benefits of “fellowship” – of any sort!?

I am a HERDSA member who thinks there is value in an informal HEA Fellowship networking event for HEA Fellows and those interested in knowing more about the benefits of “fellowship”. We will discuss “fellowship” in general, and discuss the benefits of participating in recognition programs. Many universities in Australia and New Zealand have HEA fellowship programs or are considering integrating some aspect of reward and recognition of learning and teaching through fellowship within their institution. Maybe there is interest in forming a HERDSA Special Interest Group (SIG) to bring HEA fellowship holders together? Let’s meet and discuss!!

If cant attend or would like more information please register your interest via the URL below:

Invitation to participate in a study exploring the views of university educators with regard to CALD students’ experiences

HERDSA colleagues are invited to participate in a project seeks to explore the perceptions, understandings and practices of university staff across Australia who work with domestic CALDM/R students (by which we mean any student with a CALD background who does not hold an international student visa but who arrived as a migrant or refugee) with regard to their engagement in their studies and their preparedness for for ‘transitioning out’ of higher education and into employment or further study that is commensurate with the studies they have recently completed. We are specifically interested in the experiences of academic educators who work in the ‘caring’ fields of Education, Nursing, Social Work, and Psychology because we know that many CALDM/R students study in these disciplines with the intention of ‘giving back’ after resettling in countries like Australia.

This invitation invites colleagues to participate in an online survey and, should they choose to, a follow-up face-to-face interview. For your information, our inclusion criteria are:

Disciplinary teaching staff (course tutors, course convenors, program convenors) in the key “caring” disciplines of psychology, social work, nursing and education; or
Support staff (learning advisors, language experts, counsellors, equity practitioners); or
Senior managers with responsibility for teaching and learning; and
At least 12 months’ experience working for a university in either a teaching or professional role.

Culturally and linguistically diverse migrant and refugee students’ participation in and transition out of university studies and into the ‘caring professions’: What are the views of educators?

Take this survey powered by surveymonkey.com. Create your own surveys for free.

It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete the survey. The survey will be open until 30th June 2019. In the survey, participants can indicate their interest in taking part in an interview, in which case a member of the team will be in contact to arrange a time to speak either in person or on the phone. The interview should take approximately 45 minutes.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous, and responses will be kept entirely confidential. We have obtained ethics approval from the UNSW HREC for this project (HC190129). A copy of the participant information and consent form is attached in this email.
