HERDSA GUIDES
GUIDELINES FOR REFEREES
HERDSA Guides are relatively short, inexpensive,
easy to read manuals which provide pragmatic ideas for immediate use.
Specific criteria for assessing the suitability
of Guide proposals and developed manuscripts include:
- Relevance to contemporary issues and likely
general interest
- Applicability to higher education
- Applicability to the Australasian region
- Evidence of appropriate background research
- Evidence of the relevance of similar events/projects
within other higher education institutions within the region
- Clear and useful recommendations for practice
- Clarity of expression, organisation and presentation
of material
- Provision of resources
- Other, according to interest areas/expertise
of individual referees.
NOTE:
- It would be appreciated if referees could
provide authors with recommendations for how any perceived inadequacies could
be improved, the material refocussed and/or revised.
- Referees should clearly indicate whether they
are recommending acceptance, resubmission or rejection.
- If a work is to be resumitted, referees should
indicate whether they are willing to review the resubmitted paper.
- As referees’ responses will be collated and
forwarded to authors, it is preferred that referees’ reports be sent electronically.
- The referee process is blind, and therefore
all references to the authors and referees are removed prior to distribution.
